I never Believed In The Travel Bug – Until It Bit Me

I never used to understand how people could travel so many places and still want to see more of the world. I travelled a lot as a child and a teenager, mostly on school trips and things like that and it never really inspired me particularly much to see more of the world.

It wasn’t that I didn’t enjoy travelling, because I did, and if opportunities came up to go places then I would take them. I just never had that desperate drive to see so many different parts of the world and to appreciate new places that some people seem to have.

I think part of this was because despite the fact that I did go all these amazing places, I was always told where to go, when to go, and how long to stay there. The was never the time to appreciate and take things in at your own rate, to have time to process and really reflect on what was there. I went to Auschwitz as part of a school trip, and I really want to go again simply because I didn’t feel like I truly got to reflect on the place and all the atrocities that happened there.

I was also never a big fan of the whole “you have to have one travel in groups of at least 3” thing that the teachers usually insisted on. Mostly because I was a pretty big loner and never really had any friends, so I would end up tagging along with a group of people I didn’t really know, which in turn would often mean that I didn’t get to see all the things I actually wanted to see.

Recently everything changed. I started travelling on my own and realised that I absolutely love travelling. I love getting to see new places, experience new cultures, and try new foods. The more I see of the world the more I want to see and the more I plan, the longer my list of places on my bucket list gets.

At the moment I’m busy trying to plan an epic, round the world adventure. But trying to decide where I want to got, what I absolutely can not miss, and what things I’m willing to compromise on is so hard.

This world is huge and there’s so little time to explore it in.
